EMPLOYMENT FOR DISABLED
ADA Technology is helping disabled people to become employed and feel like part of community. By empowering people with disabilities and assisting them to use their skills and abilities creatively, ADA Technology seeks to bring innovative employment that will be a natural part of the lives of disabled people. ADA Tech Accessibility Testers seeks to train disabled people to become web accessibility testers. Once trained, these individuals will be matched with organizations and companies that want their websites and online information be accessible and readable for disabled people. Who can be better test accessibility than disabled people themselves!!! Most web developers act in blindness when they design accessible websites, since they lack knowledge about disabled people and the technology they use. Accessibility guidelines and validation tools doesn't provide this insight. Rather accessibility should rather be approached from a user-centered perspective. More companies and organizations are starting to realize that their websites do not work for users who experience physical barriers to the accessing the Internet. They are loosing users as a result of not testing their websites in real world situations of how disabled people use such sources. The biggest corporations realized the problem years ago and had have user experience analysts, usability specialists and even web behavior psychologists on their staff. Smaller companies and non-profit organizations simply cannot afford such personnel. At the same time, they can not afford to have their websites invisible and non-accessible for their customers and clients. Specialists who can test and analyze user experience are expensive and must be highly experienced in technology and psychology. Even with such skills and knowledge it's difficult for them to simulate and/ or fully understand the experience of disabled users. This is where disabled people are the best solution to web accessibility testing. ADA Technology is planning to train disable people in two different level of testing. The first level are "browsing testers" - or those who access and browse webpages and answer questions about their experience. This level does not demand technological knowledge and Internet experience; It demands a basic understanding of computers, the Internet and accessible equipment and software. ADA technology will provide these testers with access to such equipment and software and will show them how to use equipment, computers and the Internet. The second level are "sophisticated testers" -- or those who are already experienced computer and Internet users and are able not only browse but also technologically assess their experience on the web and provide advice on improvement. ADA Technology is creating a website for its testers. The testers will be able to access their personal pages with information about their assessments, earnings and jobs. With its Accessibility Tester project ADA technology wants to provide fun and stable employment for local disabled people. ADA Technology sees disabled Accessibility Testers as natural part of the web working toward full accessibility for everybody. It should not matter where people live, what equipment and browsers they use, what language they speak and what health barriers they have in order for them to participant in the new social sphere of the Internet
