Technological Innovations

ADA Tech Network is changing the way learning materials are collected, delivered, and consumed.

In the traditional "single source - single interface" Internet environment model, the data and information are kept on a server, delivered while the user is requesting information from the server. In this "client-server" communication architecture, the set of data is distributed as a "pre-developed" webpage to all users who request it. It must be redeveloped if it's not accessible, does not fit a user's needs or is not compatible with the user's computer or electronic device. In addition, in order to access and work with web information in this manner, a user must maintain a permanent connection to the server.

In the ADA Tech Network's "single source - multiple interface" web environment, each user communicates with a server, not directly, but rather using middle-tier software (web services). Web services are able to identify features of each network computer/electronic device and render the same set of data differently. The data are delivered such that the individual needs of users with different limitations and/or levels of disabilities are met. The network rendering multi-interfaces from a single source is based on "thin-client" data exchange architecture. A user of this data exchange architecture does not need to maintain a constant connection to the server while accessing and using the web pages. The data are retrieved once; connection to the server is then terminated.

ADA Tech learning web network will work like a TV network that delivers TV programs at the request of subscribers, but with more specialized features and full interactivity.
  • The ADA Tech. web server will operate like a TV station that stores programs (in the case of ADA Tech network, data for different web materials and courses) for distribution on the request of each individual subscriber (i.e. the network user)
  • A set of learning data and information, or the ADA Tech. learning library, will be created by the network specialists and/or contributed by teachers, doctors, peers and other network's users. They will be able to digitize, organize and update the learning and school related materials with interactive ADA Tech. management panels. Data will be structured and kept on the ADA Tech. server available to the users for further rendering
  • A disabled user will employ a special control panel to set or adjust parameters and features for his/her personal computer and interfaces. The control panel allows the user to communicate and receive information through the Network as he/she desires
  • The user can customize interfaces and, similarly, choose his/her own learning materials or build new ones from blocks of data. The user can also set the level of accessibility in an interface and time materials are delivered. This system is comparable to ON Demand subscription services, but much more sophisticated.
This technological approach provides severely disabled students a rich variety of digital learning materials and tools, fully accessible for them. It also can potentially reduce the time and efforts devoted to developing applications and maintaining the network.
  • Using such architecture, advanced adaptive technologies, and new universal web standards, ADA Tech. Network will be able to provide to each of its disabled users a level of compatibility and accessibility adjusted and appropriate to his/her unique needs. Each user will receive an optimal user interface, one which is not merely "accessible" but also "usable"
  • The efforts and time of developers will not be wasted. They do not need to create different versions of the same web presentation so that users with different disabilities can access and use it. The server and the Network resources, also, will not be wasted because a majority of the connections to the server are terminated automatically once data are retrieved.
